Welcome to Paper Havens
The concept of “home” fascinates me. Home means something different to everyone. For many it is a sanctuary of joy and love – for others, it is a place they are still searching for, and for some, home is the last place they want to be.
People often make up imaginary friends so I thought, “Why not make up some imaginary homes?” So I did just that, embarking on a project called Paper Havens – a series of houses, each unique in size, shape, color, and aesthetic. That way anyone who views them would connect with at least one and think “I want to live there.”
My hope is to give everyone at least one home that is a haven, even if it is imaginary. One place they can escape to in their imaginations where they feel safe and are able to kick their feet up for a minute and relax.
Each piece in the series is a collage, assembled out of glass, hand-painted paper, and some found paper. I chose paper because I love the way it can be manipulated in color, texture, and shape. Paper is such a humble medium, yet it can be so complex if you give it the opportunity. I find it to be the perfect vessel to build all the houses in my imagination.
